He greets us with a sweet , anything-for-you smile and when told about his recommendation by the Registrar herself, he is shy yet happy for the acknowledgement and recognition he has received.

Sachidananda Baliarsingh, the computer assistant at the registrar’s office in Ravenshaw University is probably the most meek, humble and down-to-earth person you will ever meet.

Born in 1964 at Banamalipur, he completed his schooling in a UP School and recalls that he was one among the only 26 people who passed their matriculation from their school compared to the 300 students who were alongside him.

He attended BJB  College, Bhubaneswar for his graduation. Unfortunately, due to some financial barriers he could not complete his BA. While in BJB, he used to walk down 7 kms to learn typing at a computer Institute in Bhubaneswar.

Seeing his flair for typing, he was given work for nominal fees at the institute itself.

In the late Nineties, he landed in the job of a typist in Ravenshaw College. Seeing his efficiency, the authorities were pleased and he was given a post equivalent to a government post in the college.

His responsibilities includes typing out semester forms, establishment salary, notices, government letters and hostel letters. But his work profile does not stop him being a favorite of all Ravenshawians.

A man with a positive attitude whose helpful nature has put him on  top of the unsung-heroes list of Ravenshaw.
